IMPORTANT NOTE: OpenPort 1.3D/1.3R/1.3U is twice as fast at datalogging than OpenPort 2.0
IMPORTANT NOTE: OpenPort 2.0 is required for Reflashing 1998-2000 H8 Mitsubishi Evo5/6/6.5 TME/DSM ECUs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For Mitsubishi DSM/3000GT use EvoScan v2.5, and here are some additional instructions
1.3R and 1.3U are the exact physical same cable.. there is 100% no differences... ok there is one difference.. a special serial number is loaded into each 1.3U cable that allows Ecuflash software to recognise it as a licensed cable, but this is a software check thing, not a physical cable thing.. you will find that for all features of EvoScan such as actuators and datalogging, they are 100% identical cables.
Table Last Updated: 24th December 2014
Openport 1.3D/1.3R/1.3U FT232R and FT232RQ are faster at datalogging pre 2007 vehicles than the OpenPort2.0 NXP chipset.
Driver Installation Issues: Sometimes the driver just won't work no matter how much you install/uninstall ecuflash or evoscan. This happens 1% of the time, and to fix this you need to go into the c:\windows\inf\ folder and do a windows search "in file contents" for the word FTDI and delete just those specific inf files. On my pc I found oem10.inf oem11.inf oem12.inf oem14.inf. Then reinstall from the evoscan drivers folder or ecuflash installer, then it will work. Remember x86 means 32bit windows, and x64 means 64bit version of windows.
On some strange situations, when plugging in the "FTDI USB to Serial COM" cable it pops up a message informing you that the driver was not digitally signed correctly and will be disabled. This can be fixed by going to the c:\windows\system32\drivers folder and deleting ftser2k.sys and then un-installing the driver, plug the cable back in, and reinstalling if requested, using the FTDI driver that comes with EvoScan or ECUFlash in the drivers folder.
Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing... If you get the driver install windows error: "cannot find the file specified" "during the installation of the device." Then check for this missing RunOnce registry key, don't be confused by RunOnceEx, you need RunOnce & RunOnceEx HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce If its missing. goto the CurrentVersion key(folder) using regedit, and add a new Key(folder) called "RunOnce"
If you are looking for the drivers, EcuFlash and EvoScan have a spare copy of the drivers in their installation folders in case you need them again here are those folder locations: C:\Program Files (x86)\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.7\USB Drivers\openport 1.3\ C:\Program Files (x86)\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.7\USB Drivers\openport 2.0\ double click DPInst.exe to run this driver installation program. Also if windows asks for a driver folder, you can point it at the right folder above.
Also EvoScan has copies of the drivers stored here: C:\Program Files (x86)\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.7\USB Drivers\openport 1.3\ C:\Program Files (x86)\EvoScan\EvoScan v2.7\USB Drivers\openport 2.0\
Also works on some OBDII vehicles, Evo1-3, Diesel L200 Works on Hyundai Galloper 3.0 V6 1998, the engine is a 6GAT. The evoscan protocol used is 1G (MMC). Works only on some Diesel vehicles, try it out, i can refund you the cable price if it doesn't work, let me know . Does not work on early model evos from 1 to 3 - support is work in progress.
"ES" is for EvoScan Reflashing, works with OpenPort 1.3R cables. EvoScan is just $25 and also does advanced datalogging. so if you have a Mitsubishi Evo7/8/9 or Mitsubishi vehicle in the same year as these, then you have two options, you can purchase a EvoScan OpenPort 1.3R and use that for reflashing which EvoScan can reflash these specific model Evo's.
"EF" is for EcuFlash Reflashing.. The price of EcuFlash is included in the Cable which is why the ecuflash cables are more expensive (OpenPort 1.3U is $40 more expensive, and OpenPort 2.0 is $91 more expensive) Download a copy of ECUFlash here (ECUFlash is used for editing fuel and timing maps and other ecu settings)
Mitsubishi Reflashing Compatable vehicles... Airtrek Turbo, Brilliance, Eclipse GS/GT/GSX, EVO 5/6/6.5/7/8/9/10, Galant, Lancer, Magna, Mirage, Montero Sport, Outlander, Pajero Sport ... basically any Mitsubishi ECU based on a H8, SH-2, or M32r processor
Subaru Reflashing Compatable vehicles... Baja, Exiga, Forester NA/turbo/XT, Impreza NA/WRX/STI, Legacy NA/GT, Liberty NA/GT, Outback NA/XT, Tribeca ... basically any Subaru ECU based on a HC16, or SH-2 processor
Special Notes:
- Mitsubish Evo5, 6, 6.5 TME can be reflashed using OpenPort 2.0 cable.
- 1.4E (not sold for a long time) and 1.3D are functionally the same.. datalogger for MUTII and SSMII and OBDII just a different circuit board design. 1.3D are more reliable and compatable with many Mitsubishi.
- 1.3M is an old cable by tactrix that is mitsubishi only. now replaced by 1.3U (subaru and mitsubshi) has a $40 serial license included for use with ecuflash software. (yep you didn't really think ecuflash was free software did you :)
- 1.3R is technically and functionally the same as 1.3U, except without the ecuflash $40 license, and will not be recognised by ecuflash.. but those with a version of ecuflash(can map edit), and then use evoscan for reflashing evo7/8/9 (these specific vehicles). then the 1.3R is a good cheaper option.
- Why does some older OpenPort 1.3U cables have 3 wires on the white mitsubishi 12pin reflash auxillary connector, when only one wire is required for reflashing? This is because it was considered that the one wire would be too weak when pulling it out of the 12pin socket. so a dummy 2 extra wires were added, and they don't connect anywhere they are just attached a little way up the one single black wire for strength, Nowadays we stress test the single wire and determined that it will never come out when detaching, so we just have 1 wire now.

Compatability of cables with EvoScan At the moment evoscan has full Openport 1.3U support foremost for all features. EvoX of course you will need OpenPort2.0 for CANOBDII, EVOXCAN or mode23. Many evoscan features for op2 is not yet implemented, such as subaru+op2, and such as actuators. more support is still work in progress.
AYC actuator (such as set idle, and injector testing) support is for Evo4 works great. (but needs to be fully confirmed that it can enable the actuator pumps). Some have noted that sensor information for the wheel speed sensors are swapped over, so be aware of this.
AYC/ACD datalogging support for Evo7/8/9 is now working great. most have best success with op1.3U and latest v2.9.0092 EvoScan Software.
For reflashing AYC/ACD(read and write) most have best success with op2 cable wired on a bench to the AYC/ACD ecu.

Evoscan GPS Navigator Notes: 9th July 2010 update: The D version of Openport 1.3, OpenPort 1.3D, was too similiar to FTDI Serial COM to USB Adapters and it wasn't being picked up correctly as a datalogging cable on the evoscan gps navigator, this is now fixed by a firmware upgrade to the OpenPort 1.3D cable. this changes the usb pid to CC4A and descriptor to OpenPort 1.3 Datalogger. You can change this yourself using a program called Mprog from the FTDI website.
3rd May 2010 update: Subaru SSMII is now available on EvoScan GPS Navigator v1.8
ECU SWAP RECOMMENDATIONS: If you have a pre 1998 mitsubishi lancer or a Evo4 etc.. or another vehicle for that matter and want to utilise some of this cool technology, here are some of my recommendations for an ecu swap.
• you should buy a evo5/6 ecu + Openport 2.0 USB Cable or • you should buy a evo7/8 ecu + EvoScan 1.3R USB Cable (evo1,evo2,evo3, evo4 ecu is not really advisable nor a best solution because you can't reflash it.) me personally I would go for evo7/8 ecu + op1.3R thats what I did with my 1997 evo4. also, have a read of the Evo4/5/6 conversion to Evo7/8 ECU Pinout Diagrams.zip file on this page: http://www.evoscan.com/vehicle-manuals
